A wonderful and amazing suprise !

A while back, I participted in the Knitters Tea Swap. I had a wonderful secret pal who sent me stuff, whome never told me her name. (I would love to find out who she is one of these days. ) I also had the opertunity to be the secret pal to a wonderful women named Sarah.

After the swap was done, and I was able to tell her who I was, we started talking via email and comments on each others blogs. She even mailed me a post card which I thought was a
wonderful thing. Well, today I got a huge suprise. Matt came home after work and brought the mail in like he always does. There was a package for me. It wasn't one of the ones from my parents that I've been expecting for several days, it was from Sarah. She made me a little bag to hold all of that little stuff you need when knitting. I think the correct term is "knitting notions" but I'm not sure. Isn't it wonderful ! This is the first time anyone not related to me has ever made me something for no real reason. (My mom, of course, has knitted me serval things over the years, and not just for holidays. ) It was such a wonderful suprise.

So, of course I had to take my stuff out of the old pencil case I had been useing and put them in this bag. I'm so excited. It is the perfect size. I can fit all the little things i need in it without any problems. Isn't Sarah a wonderful person ? I think so.

Weekend of FO !

Well, this was the weekend of FOs.

First off, I finally finsihed the socks that just wouldn't end. I am really happy with how they turned out. However, they were a lot of work. Of course, if I paid better attention to them, they could have been done sooner.... The pattern wasn't hard. But, it just took a while. It started as a simple *P4, C4b* ever 4th row. But, then, I decided it would look better, if I alternted the cables. So it quickly became:
Rnd 1: *P4, K4, P4, K4*
Rnd 2: *P4, C4B, P4, K4*
Rnd 3: *P
4, K4, P4, K4*
Rnd 4: *P4, K4, P4, C4B*

It's not a hard pattern. But, at 10 sts/in on size 0s with a 10 in around foot, it just takes a lot of time. And, of course, the cable needles don't come small enough to use with size 0s, so I had to use a tapistry needle as my cable needle. All in all, I really like them. But, it will be a while before I do another all over cable pattern. Next cabled socks will likely just have a cable or two for accent, not completely covered in cables.

So, the socks were done Saterday night. As some of you know, I have been working on my first ever lace project. A simple shawl. The idea when I started it was to wear it to a wedding this weekend. I was going along. I have no idea how much it will grow when blocked. But, I thought I was at about 42-44 inches wide. (It's lace so it's kinda scrucnhed up on some 29in long ciruclar needles. So I didn't know exactly how long it was. ) I was going ot keep working on it every day until Thursday when I would cast off since I need it on Saterday, and i would just pray it was wide enough.

Then, my dear friend, Esther, was in town for the day. She is a wonderful person, and an experinced lace knitter. Durring the hang out she mentioend that it was a strechy pattern, and should grow about three inches for every inch. So, then thinking it would grow to 126 in, I decided it was time to cast off right away. That's huge ! Well, the cast off was a huge pain. I'm a tight knitter, and I knew if I screwed up the cast off, the shawl wouldn't block right. So, Sunday night, I sat down and slowly and carefully cast off the shawl. After the cast off, I mesured the shawl, and it's almsot 60 inches accross the top. I really hope Esther's estime is a bit off. 180 inches is way to big !

Now, I have to block the shawl. I'm so nervous about screwing it up. My first lace blocking! Thankfully, Esther gave me some tips on how to block lace.

Pictures of the shawl will have to wait until another post.

You know... Now that I think about it, maybe Esther ment it will grow one inch for every three. That falls more in line with what I keep reading on line. Maybe I misunderstood her. Which given my excitment to see her, is probley what happoned. Then, it would be about 80 inches accross which makes sence...

Well, we'll know in a few days when I block.

I got offered a job today !

Those of you who know me, know that I've been looking for a job since my husband and I moved out here. Some of the time, the job search was a bit passive. Other times it was very active. I have my engineering degree, but my experience isn't what companies out here are looking for. I would have to go back and get my master's degree in order to stand a chance at getting another engineering postion. (Per about 5 recuriters and 8 differnt "mangers" who did phone interivews with me. ) So I started looking for non engineering jobs. I had an intereview eailer this week that I thought went well. And, today the HR person called and offered me the job. I'm very exicted. I start working in a few weeks.

P.S. None of the photos I took of the needles were any good. So, I will take some new ones and hopefully be able to upload them in the next day or so.

Finished the Baby Blanket !

Those of you who read my blog regularly, and can remember way back to my last project update post (May something or other, I think), know that I have several gift projects going. Well, last week, I finished one, and gave it to it's intended owner. I was just bad about getting the pictures of it off the camera.

Elinor, who is the wonderful women who started my
Knitting group is going to have a baby next month. Of course, when she told the knitting group, everyone's eyes started to dance as we all thought about what wonderful projects we could make for the baby. I decided that since everyone else was going to knit, I would crochet something. And, Elinor already makes such wonderful baby clothes, that if I tried to make clothes, they wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the stuff Elinor makes, so I went for the baby blanket.

I had a beautful shell pattern that I've wanted to make for a while now, and I got some Caron Simply Soft (machine washable for when baby makes a mess). The end result was this nice blanket. I really like how it turned out, and the most imporatnat thing is, Elinor seemed to like it.

A record setting 6 comments on my last entry

Wow. I got a record setting 6 comments on my last entry. I guess that it helped a lot being linked to by the Simpley Sock Yarn Company. I just wanted to write a quick thank you to everyone who commented on my blog or read it. I always kinda think that noone ever reads the blog. It's always nice to be suprised with comments. Thanks.

P.S. For those of you who are computer geeks out there: This is also a test post to see if I can post to my blog useing Linux. I'm thinking about switching over from Windows, but I have to make sure things work well. There shouldn't be an issue with this post since blogger uses a web-based thing, but you never know.

I won ! I won !

I'm so excited right now. A while back, I entered the contest from Simply Sock Yarn Company. You should go check out their site, it's really cool. Lots of great stuff. My budget doesn't let me order yarn very often, but they were on the very short list of places I would be ordering from when I get a bit further through my sock yarn stash. Plus, the store has a blog. How cool is that, a store with a blog ! Matt got the biggest kick out of that. He told me to make sure I bookmarked it. Of course, by then, it was already listed in my Bloglines account so I can keep up to date with it.

When I entered,I didn't even think I would win. After all, I never win those type of contests. Actually, I never win any contests. But, the whole thing of the contest was to provide them with feedback on thier site, and if you did so, they would put you in the running to win some stuff from them. I thought it was a great way to get feedback on their site and thier store from poeple who would really be shopping there.

I got an email from Allison Van Zandt the owner of Simply Sock Yarn Company to let me know that I was the grand prize winner. I'm getting an 11 size assortment of Crystal Palace Double Pointed Needles ! I'm just in shock right now. I won. I've never used Crystal Palace. But, I've heard great things about them. I can't wait to try them out ! I'm just so excited that I'm not makeing much sence right now. Sorry about that.

I will post pictures of the needles when I get them. I'm so excited. I can't wait.
